Where are all collectors of Depression glass?
Now that I have inherited a huge collection of the Directorate General Mom, I'm having trouble selling. When my mother was collecting in the 1970's, it seemed the whole world. Was the competition and the glass was on the pricey side for low-end collectibles. I remember doing a 100 km round trip to buy a lunch of green "No. 612" (also known as "horseshoe") heard advertised on Swap Shop "on the radio. She paid $ 300 in 1976. Judging from that price, it would be $ 1100 in today's dollars, but I know it will not be able to get that price! Can not even get $ 150 (half what you paid and about $ 40 to a value of 1976). I posted on Craig's List and announcement of European and sales have my cloud. Even hired an Ebay trading assistant to put it on sale for about years, but not a bite. People just do not seem to be interested more. What's happening?
I have also noticed a decrease An interest in antiques. I come from a family of antique or collectible at resale – that is, as a group we made a display of antiques, better flea markets, eBay, etsy, craigslist, including participation in a tent for a while. Even before the economy collapsed, I realized that it seems have less interest in antiques and collectibles … and after the economy collapsed I noticed a huge drop in interest .. probably largely because the collection has to do with the disposable income we all have less time. During the tank the economy was still going to court and asset sales, and because driving a truck that had antique furniture sellers offer me free, just to get out of their yards! He saw me pull up and his eyes light up … I have some free and cheap things, but then the house was filled (I'm in the process of de-fill {New …!} now). I remember realizing This same decrease in interest in antiques some 20 years ago, and my theory is that as fashion, real estate and the economy, interest in antiques has cycles. My suggestion would be to store only these things for a while, but seems to have already done that. Ebay has changed dramatically in recent years and no longer sell or buy there … Etsy is a growing market, much easier to eBay, has a vintage section and you can prove that. I guess your options are to sell cheap, or put back into storage, not thinking about it for a while and wait for the antique cultural backup cycle. It could also provide family members, if anyone is interested. I used to have a lot of depression glass myself, but have become parts more robust and base and is only kept a few bits of my favorites.
