When you think of all the arcania that is kept in museums (think Fonzi’s jacket) why didn’t anyone save…?
Why is there no Ark of the Covenant, no Ten Commandment tablets, no True Cross (that is if you discount the myriad fakes) etc. If we can save Elvis’ scarves, and Michael Jackson’s glove and other kinds of ephemera; then why not something of God’s.
Frankly, I think that the vast bulk of the bible is nothing more than myth. There is no archaeological evidence for anything in the Old Testament until well after the reign of King Solomon. And the New Testament? Really, all you can say is that there were Christians at some point. Many of the characters (such as Paul and Simon Magus) probably lived, though they didn’t say anything ascribed to them in the bible. In fact, Paul and Simon Magus were very likely the same person.
That said, I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if the Ark of the Covenant were found. As it is described, it is a very common artifact. The Egyptians and the Babylonians talk about the exact same thing.
All that said, you’d better not be saying Indiana Jones’ hat isn’t holy. We might have a problem.
